Artist Statement:
I have a fascination with poisonous plants and flowers. I see them as one of natures biggest deceptions. Like so often with poisonous things, poisonous flowers look beautiful and are quite common in the case of the lily but can cause horrible side effects if they are touched or ingested.  This sculpture juxtaposes beauty and horror. The greenhouse represents a safe place, filled with beauty. Careful observation reveals disturbing evidence. The sculpture speaks to the proverb, "things are seldom what they seem". At first glance, the viewer sees a miniature greenhouse with bright colors and artificial greenery. Upon further inspection, the viewer will notice the labels on the jars are warnings of side effects from different plant species. Severed body parts are inside the glass jars, topped with greenery.
