ART 21 Response, Assignment Guidelines
Art21 is a celebrated global leader in presenting thought-provoking and sophisticated content about contemporary art, and the go-to place to learn first-hand from the artists of our time. Art21 provides unparalleled access to the artist’s voice to diverse audiences around the world, using the power of digital media to introduce millions of people to contemporary art and artists. For over two decades, Art21 has changed the paradigm for teaching and learning about the creative process.
Step 1
- Watch an artist video from the ART 21 website.
- Go to link below and select a video from the list of artists.
Step 2
- Post a link to the video on your blog.
- Include name of artist.
- Include two (2) words/phrases that describe the artist's work.
- These descriptive words reflect your perception of the work. There are no right/wrong answers.
- For example, you may respond with "social commentary" and "sadness".
- Carefully consider the meaning of the work.
- I suggest watching the video more than once and take notes as you watch.
Step 3
- At least two (2) images of the artist's work - do not use the same artwork - use two different artworks. You will have to search the internet for this info.
- Include a source link for each image.
- For each image, select at least one (1) observation related to elements and principles of art and design. Review elements and principles at link below.

- State the element and/or principle and describe your observation.
- For example:
- You select "Focal Point/Emphasis" for Artwork #1. The sculpture contains an area of intense texture surrounded by smooth textures. This creates an area of emphasis.
- You select "Repetition" for Artwork #2. The painting repeats the circular shapes across the middle section.
