Make It Roll Assignment Guidelines
Assignment:
Using cardboard and tape, design and construct a sphere that can roll.
Objective:
Challenge construction skills to create a functional form.
Materials:
Cardboard - each student needs 2 - 3 medium boxes.
Masking Tape and/or Duct Tape (I have duct tape for students)
Utility Knife - large box cutter knife. Cannot use Exacto Knife.
Card Stock. I will provide.
Scissors
Step 1
Create a maquette (a small model).
Use card stock. Masking tape works best for the maquette. Scotch tape is also an option.
Step 2
Begin final solution.
Must be between 20" - 22" diameter.
Use only cardboard and mask and/or duct tape.
No stacking cardboard.
Step 3
As a class, we will gather outside Proctor Library, near the ramp.
Each student will have a chance to demonstrate their design, "make it roll".
