Figurative Bust Sculpture, Student Work, In-Process

Make sure you place paper under your sculptures when carving to catch debris.

Feel free to leave entertaining notes with your sculptures.

Once the clay is dry, you can crush pastel to create a "dust"
and apply with a dry paintbrush.

Thin, delicate shapes will need to be built and secured with wire.
Make sure paper placed between clay sculpture and banding wheel, otherwise your clay sculpture will stick/adhere to the banding wheel. since this sculpture had no paper, portions of the bottom area had to be rebuilt when removed.

You can apply black ink to the dry sculpture. The result is a metallic/metal finish.

Your collection “#EuropaEuropa” centres on the refugee crisis, has this issue always been of interest to you?

I have been interested in the worldwide refugee crisis and the world geopolitics that it ties with for many years. It plays out on our TV screens almost nightly. The mass movement of people has been continuous throughout history; but increasingly countries try to manage, limit and control this movement, with varying degrees of success. Cold-hearted policies are often implemented, with dire consequences for those caught up in their reach. Ultimately the need to seek refuge will continue in spite of how particular countries react.
