Drawing Portfolio Assignment Guidelines

DETAILS:

  • This assignment is done at the end of the semester in class.
  • The sculptures you made during the semester serve as a source of observation and inspiration.
  • I have prepared a series of quick drawing challenges for you.  I will announce these details in class, the day we do the drawings. The first five drawings will be done as a group.
  • The remaining drawings will be completed on your own. If you do not finish all the drawings in class, then finish for homework.
  • The content of the drawings you complete outside of the group drawing session is your choice. Repeat an exercise we did as a group or invent your own ideas. Observe the entire sculpture from life or crop in, drawing a particular detail of your sculpture.  Perhaps the drawing for the Memento assignment is a portrait of someone connected with the memento.  Maybe a drawing for the Paper Stacking assignment is a pattern created by the outline of your sculpture.
  • I expect these drawings to demonstrate time and show skillful and conceptual effort.
  • All drawings need to be posted on your blog.  Post drawings with the appropriate assignment or create a separate post for all the drawings.  Your choice - scan or photograph the drawings.
  • Due date for drawings announced in class. The actual drawings need to be turned in for evaluation.
  • Please make sure your name and the 3D assignment appears on the back of each drawing.
